Patients whose oral cavity, teeth, salivary glands and jaws will be affected by their treatment should have a dental assessment as early as possible to allow time for any necessary dental treatment.
The restorative dentist will oversee a dental assessment and will:
- Advise on how to look after the mouth during and after cancer treatment.
- Identify teeth that require dental treatment before cancer treatment (e.g. extraction).
- Discuss plans for dental treatment after cancer treatment has taken place.
- Liaise with the patient’s general dental practitioner.
This leaflet provides oral care advice for patients having oral cancer treatment.
