Dentistry ImageConsultants in Restorative Dentistry are core members of the multidisciplinary team dealing with head and neck cancer patients.

Patients whose oral cavity, teeth, salivary glands and jaws will be affected by their treatment should have a dental assessment as early as possible to allow time for any necessary dental treatment.

The restorative dentist will oversee a dental assessment and will:

  • Advise on how to look after the mouth during and after cancer treatment.
  • Identify teeth that require dental treatment before cancer treatment (e.g. extraction).
  • Discuss plans for dental treatment after cancer treatment has taken place.
  • Liaise with the patient’s general dental practitioner.

This leaflet provides oral care advice for patients having oral cancer treatment.
