Workforce - supporting and developing our people

Our aims:

The aims of West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance in this area of work are listed below.

This work is undertaken in the context of the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, published in June 2023.

To support our partners to make the most effective use of their workforce.
To help them address workforce-related barriers to the delivery of cancer services.
To support and encourage workforce innovation and transformation through our local, regional and national relationships and networks.

Supporting implementation of the Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Framework (Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development), introduced by NHS England for the non-medical cancer workforce. We work with local NHS providers to support implementation and provide programme management support for national ACCEND work packages, including communications and engagement.
Maximising uptake of education and workforce development funding offers from NHS England and elsewhere, along with resources and initiatives relevant to the cancer workforce
Leading the National Cancer CNS Development Forum launched by the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance, following the success of the North East and Yorkshire Macmillan CNS Development Programme. Read more about the programme.
Facilitating communities of practice to bring colleagues together both locally and regionally, to share good practice, learning and innovation in workforce development and education. This includes our Lead Cancer Nurses and Cancer Allied Health Professionals (AHP).
Promoting and sharing the benefits and learning from local and national workforce-related innovation
