The work of the Cancer Alliance is overseen by the Cancer Alliance Board, which meets quarterly.
Our Board draws together leaders from different clinical and managerial disciplines working across the West Yorkshire and Harrogate area, who can scrutinise the work taking place and, working collaboratively, hold each other and the leadership team to account. This includes lay members who advocate for the patient and public voice.
There are two Senior Responsible Officer (SROs) for the Cancer Alliance who act as Co-Chairs to the Board. They are Neil Smurthwaite, Executive Director of Corporate Services for Locala, and Chris Evans, Deputy Chief Executive, Mid Yorkshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Our Lead Board member for finance is Mike Savage, Executive Director of Finance for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. Our Lead Chief Operating Officer is Julia Nixon, Chief Operating Officer for Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.
Our Board operates on an advisory basis for transformation activities, using a consensus-based model to bring local partners together to transform outcomes.
As a Cancer Alliance and as a member of the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership, we work closely with the NHS West Yorkshire ICB and the Humber and North Yorkshire ICB given that Harrogate is included in our regional catchment area. We also interact with the cancer team in NHS North East and Yorkshire and the NHS England National Cancer Programme Team. We are also pleased to work in partnership with the West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT), who act as our host. WYAAT are in turn hosted by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
