National Priorities
- Deliver Best Practice Timed Pathway (BPTP) diagnostic milestones on the suspected colorectal cancer pathway.
- Ensure all colorectal cancers are tested for Lynch Syndrome.
- Implement Faecal Immunochemical Testing (FIT) in West Yorkshire and Harrogate as a triage tool in primary care on the lower GI pathway for symptomatic patients.
- Implement Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) outcomes – to reduce variation in neoadjuvant radiotherapy treatment in rectal cancer patients undergoing resection and ensure evidence-based local radiotherapy policies are in place.
Local Priorities
- Polyposis regional guidelines have been updated.
- Develop Alliance wide guidelines for the neoadjuvant management of resectable rectal cancers.
- Local guidelines produced for the management of hereditary colorectal cancer.
- Adopt a 'straight to oncology' pathway for patients presenting with metastatic disease across the Cancer Alliance.
- Develop a West Yorkshire and Harrogate colonic stenting network which aims to facilitate inter-hospital transfer for stenting within the WYAAT network, should the procedure be unavailable in the ‘parent’ hospital.
