14th October 2025 marks National Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) Day, a celebration of the third-largest clinical workforce in the UK’s health and care system.
AHPs, who include radiographers, dieticians, speech and language therapists, are increasingly being recognised for their vital contributions to patient care, public health, and the future of integrated healthcare.
AHPs Day provides a platform to spotlight the remarkable impact they have on the delivery of care. The collaborations across services, organisations, regions, and nations allow the NHS to achieve:
- Reinforced awareness about the vital roles of each of the individual AHPs.
- Highlighting local service achievements and their profound influence on patient care and public health.
- Collaborative efforts with other services and organisations for integrated working.
- A showcase for those considering a career as an allied health professional.
This year’s theme, ‘The 3 Shifts’, highlights the transformative journey of healthcare:
- From hospital to community
- From treatment to prevention
- From analogue to digital
These shifts reflect the priorities of the NHS Long Term Plan and the 10-Year Health Plan, showcasing how AHPs are leading the way in delivering personalised, preventative, and tech-enabled care closer to home.
To coincide with AHPs Day, West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance is hosting an AHP forum. As well as celebrating the role of the AHP, the event will include a focus on the development of the Harrogate Haemato-Oncology and Palliative Care (HOPe) Specialist Community AHP Service as well as ACCEND self-assessment resources.
